KAMLOOPS — It’s truly a special occasion seeing Jolly Old St. Nick ride through Kamloops before he takes on the task of bringing presents to all the children of the world on Christmas Eve.

This is the 42nd annual Santa Parade and Downtown Kamloops holds the event each year to showcase the Christmas spirit.

“It really does signify the start of the holiday season and the fact that Santa Claus has come to town and he’s ready to hear you out on what you would like for Christmas,” says Downtown Kamloops Executive Director Howie Reimer.

The annual Santa Parade highlights the holidays in Kamloops bringing smiles to all the children in the city.

A large crowd of locals took to downtown to watch the spectacle.

“It was very successful. It seemed to be a good time had by all. I would estimate the crowd was probably around 25,000. Streets were packed, the floats were just spectacular people went all out,” Reimer adds.

Another key part of the parade is that it displays the downtown area in an effort to entice people to shop local.

“It is to showcase our beautiful downtown. It’s really to give an event to the City of Kamloops. It’s a free event to attend and it does kick off the shopping season. I guess there is an underlying agenda, I guess you would say, and we want people to shop local. We want people to come downtown,” says Reimer.

Now that he’s come to Kamloops, Santa and his helpers will return to the North Pole to prepare for Christmas.
