Nature bus making stop in Kamloops, sending letters to UN biodiversity conference in Montreal

KAMLOOPS — A Canadian tour bus is stopping in Kamloops Sunday (Nov. 27) as part of its effort to call on world leaders to halt and reverse nature loss.

In a news release issued Tuesday (Nov. 22), the Kamloops Naturalist Club says the NatureBus from Nature Canada – one of Canada’s largest conservation organizations – will stop at Riverside Park from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to collect messages that will be delivered to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at NatureCOP – the United Nations biodiversity conference in Montreal.

“The planet is staring down the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss,” Graham Saul, Nature Canada executive director states. “NatureCOP in Montreal could be the moment we turn things around for nature—and Canada unexpectedly finds itself in the driver’s seat.”

Nature Canada says hundreds of plant species and more than 60 species at risk depend on Canada’s grasslands. The Kamloops Naturalist Club says Kamloops is within an hour of ecosystems ranging from grasslands to mixed forests to alpine habitats and are home to dozens of endangered species. The club says the Kamloops area’s grasslands store “amazing” amounts of carbon.
