Mustard Seed to operate extreme weather shelter at Kamloops Alliance Church
KAMLOOPS — The Mustard Seed has announced a partnership with B.C. Housing and the Kamloops Alliance Church to open an extreme weather shelter.
In a news release, Mustard Seed Kamloops Managing Director Kelly Thomson says a 30-bed Extreme Weather Response (EWR) shelter will be available at the North Shore church starting December 14.
Thomson says the shelter will operate on an emergency basis during the harsher winter nights — when the temperature reaches -10C and/or there is an accumulation of 5 centimetres of snow in addition to a cold overnight low. The shelter will be open from 10:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. on those nights.
“The Mustard Seed is thrilled to partner with Kamloops Alliance Church,” said Thomson in the release. “It’s wonderful to see the faith community stepping in to help address the needs of those experiencing homelessness in our city in inclement weather. With the support and funding of BC Housing, we are able to provide up to another 30 beds for those in need.”
