Blazers send draft picks to Edmonton for injured F Demek

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers have made a deal to add to the team’s forward group — but it will be a case of delayed gratification.

Kamloops has acquired Slovakia-born forward Jakub Demek from the Edmonton Oil Kings. Demek, 19, had off-season surgery has yet to play in the 2022-23 season. It’s expected he will be ready to return to the lineup in January.

During his first season with the Oil Kings in 2021-22, Demek registered 54 points in 55 games. He followed that up with 17 points in 19 playoff games.

Going to Edmonton is a first-round draft choice in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, originally acquired from Regina. Kamloops also sends the Oil Kings a conditional second-round pick in 2024, a conditional third-round pick in 2026 and fourth-round pick in 2026.
