Plowing Local Roads

Kamloops crews turn snow removal efforts from main routes to smaller side roads

KAMLOOPS — After weathering through the bulk of nearly 20 centimetres of snow that blanketed Kamloops on Sunday and Monday (Nov. 6 and 7), city crews are finally turning their attention to smaller side roads.

Glen Farrow, Kamloops’ streets and environmental services manager, says the city’s main roads and collector and bus routes have been plowed. However, freezing temperatures are delaying the patches of ice, packed snow and other slippery sections from being broken down.

“As we see these temperatures rise… the salt and calcium chloride we put down will continue to break that bond,” Farrow told CFJC Today. “We recommend motorists to continue to drive to the conditions — slower, leaving more distance between the vehicle in front of you, proper tires and giving our operators the space and time to do the work.”

As city crews move to side roads, Farrow asks residents to remove any basketball hoops or hockey nets on the streets, and for drivers to park in driveways rather than at roadside.
