KAMLOOPS — Since Amar Doman took over the B.C. Lions last August, he has been progressive, trying to build an exciting stadium experience that brings fans to the game and keeps them coming back.

A season-opening concert with One Republic brought 34,000 fans to the game against Edmonton, a coming out party for Nathan Rourke.

Rourke is back in the line-up for this Sunday’s Western Semi-Final, and Doman has been at it again this week with incentives for fans. He’s organized a bus that will leave Kamloops Sunday morning and take Interior fans to the game.

“We had some suggestions about an Interior package, so our team worked hard securing a charter company to get a bus to make a run from Kamloops with stops in Merritt and Hope along the way,” said Lions’ vice president of business operations George Chayka. “Hopefully fans appreciate that and have an opportunity to enjoy the Western Semi-Final this Sunday when we take on the Stampeders at 1:30 p.m.”

The Lions is hoping for upwards of 40,000 fans for the game, and the initiatives for fans in the Interior, Fraser Valley and on the Island are expected to help drive numbers up.

For $67, Lions fans in Kamloops get a lower-bowl ticket to the game and the bus ride there and back.

“That lower-bowl ticket is a $47 value on its own, and that $67 gives you a bus ride from Kamloops here to BC Place and takes you back right after the game,” said Chayka. “It’s a very convenient way to enjoy the game in a cost-efficient way as well.”

Doman wanted not only to fill the stadium for the Lions first home playoff game since 2016, but he also wanted to include fans from all across the province.

It’s part of his push to build the next generation of Lions fans.

“It’s really about building a footprint going forward. This is really a template we’re building around a playoff game that I think is going to be an excellent opportunity for our afternoon games as our schedule comes out for 2023 to enjoy a B.C. Lions football game if you’re from the Interior,” said Chayka.

Kamloops residents interested can purchase tickets online here. The bus will be leaving the city at 7 a.m. Sunday, starting from the Petro-Canada Travel Centre close to the Copperhead Drive exit.
