KAMLOOPS — RCMP are asking for help from the public after a break-in to a Sahali business resulted in the theft of a large quantity of cellphones.

The incident happened at about 2:26 a.m. last Wednesday (Oct. 26). Officers responded to a business in the 1200-block of Summit Drive. The front window had been smashed and duffle bags full of cellphones were taken.

“Later that day, some of the phones were mapping to a multi-residential address on the 700-block of Notre Dame Drive,” said Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn. “Unfortunately, the information was not relayed properly to frontline officers on duty, and the lead investigator did not get the message until they returned to work several days later.”

Investigators have now viewed surveillance images showing two suspects in the business.

In addition to distributing those images, Evelyn also reminds the public to be cognizant when purchasing cellphones that, depending on where they are purchased, they may be stolen. Cellphone serial numbers can be checked by going to the Canadian Police Information Centre website.

If you have any further information about the theft, you’re asked to call Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2022-38420.
