KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Women’s Soccer Team is headed to the Canada West Final Four following a nail-biter win over Mount Royal University (MRU).

It all came down to penalty kicks for the ‘Pack as the women won 4-3 sending them to the semi-finals.

Three goals scored in the second half gave TRU the spark they needed for a comeback.

The score was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation, so the game went into extra time. No goals were scored by either squad in the first or second overtime so the game came down to penalties.

Hawan Abdissa, Madeline Trozzo, Marissa Young, Caylah Lemon and Allie Shiyuk recorded the shootout markers for TRU in an eight-round penalty kick shootout.

The WolfPack walk away with a win after clawing back into the game.

“We talk all about the time about our character and they’ve shown once again that they just don’t know when they’re beaten,” said WolfPack head coach Mark Pennington.

“They just dig deep and the belief in this group is outstanding, I couldn’t be more proud of them. They’ve been unbelievable all year,” he added.

TRU will now prepare for the Canada West Final Four as they travel down to Vancouver next weekend to take on the TWU Spartans in a semifinal match.
