KAMLOOPS — Locals are getting into the Halloween spirit in Kamloops as one of the year’s biggest holidays is right around the corner.

“It’s 10:00 a.m. this morning and we still have a lineup at our till, so it’s been awesome. It’s been the best year ever. In Kamloops we’ve been here 12 years. Every year we come back. For 12 years and this has been the best year,” Spirit Halloween store operator Cheryl Holmes told CFJC Today.

Holmes says this has been the busiest year on record in Kamloops as tens of thousands of locals have rushed through the doors throughout the month to secure their costumes.

“From the day we opened the store, there have been lots of people in here. This weekend I know for sure we will have lineups outside because we won’t be able to let everybody in.”

Whether you’re going trick-or-treating, going to a costume party or giving out candy, locals are excited to enjoy the Halloween festivities.

“Just getting together with friends dressing up, it’s the only time of the year when you can be silly and dress up,” said one customer.

“We live in [Brocklehurst] so there’s lots of candy out there and all that and I always get to pick through it after,” another resident chuckled.

“I think it’s a good time to go actually go out, it’s post-COVID,” another customer added.

Costumes have been flying off the shelves all month long and Holmes says Kamloopsians are taking full advantage of the popular horror genre.

“The best-selling costume in kids and adults is ‘Ghostface,’ hands down. We sold out right away. Spirit’s great though, they anticipated we were going to have a great year so we had lots of stock. Not so much now, but lots at the beginning.”

Scary is in this Halloween, but what’s really scary is not having a costume. Last minute costume buyers may have some trouble finding what they want if they wait too long as Spirit Halloween is expecting a busy weekend.
