KAMLOOPS — On Friday (Oct. 28), the Kamloops Crown of Curling kicks off at the Kamloops Curling Club.

The event will see some of the best men’s and women’s curling teams from across B.C. battle it out for $26,000 in prizes in this international cash spiel.

The event will feature 11 top women’s teams from across B.C. vie for a piece of an $11,000 pot. There are 16 men’s teams — 15 from across the province and one from Japan — which will duke it out for a slice of $15,000.

In each event, if a team from B.C. wins, they will book a ticket into the provincials championships later this winter.

“It’s an international event. This year, most of our teams are from B.C. — we had some teams cancel due to COVID restrictions in their countries,” Rob Nordin, Kamloops Curling Club General Manager explains. “If a BC team — a team that’s eligible for provincials — that team will get a spot to the provincials. It’s a qualifying event, as well as a World Curling Tour cash spiel.”

Many of the top teams in the province will be at the event, which should make for some exciting curling action. Nordin says spectators are encouraged to come down to the club to check out the action.

‘Corryn Brown, of course, is local. Jim Cotter has a team with some local flair. Other ones, Brent Pierce, of course, he’s the defending provincial champion,” Nordin explains. “You’re more than welcome to come down. We have great viewing from our lounge upstairs, as well as from our viewing area. Come down and see some great curling.”

The first draw of the event is scheduled for 9:00 am on Friday.
