KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers went winless over the weekend.

After dropping games to Winnipeg and Prince George at home, the Blazers fell to the Vancouver Giants on the road Sunday (Oct. 23) 6-3.

After surrendering an early power play goal, the Blazers responded late in the first period to make it 1-1 with Caedan Bankier’s wrist shot from the nearside hashmarks.

However, the second period was an unfortunate bookend for the Blazers. The Giants’ Jaden Lipinski was left all alone in the crease to deflect the puck in to make it 2-1. They had three whacks halfway through the second period and added another with Damian Palmieri bouncing on a loose puck between the hashmarks.

The Blazers got back within one thanks to a Fraser Minten tip on the power play, but that’s as close as they got to tying the game again as the Giants scored with six seconds remaining in the second and 1:36 into the third. The Blazers scored one more goal with Matthew Seminoff’s backhand off the faceoff.

The Blazers fall to 5-3-1-1 on the 2022-23 Western Hockey League season, good for 12 points in 10 games. They’re first in the B.C. Division but fourth in the Western Conference.

The Blazers host the Spokane Chiefs Friday (Oct. 28) at Sandman Centre.
