Despite Stankoven hat trick, Blazers fall in OT to Cougars

KAMLOOPS — Logan Stankoven was back to his scoring ways on Saturday (October 22) but it wasn’t enough as the Prince George Cougars stunned the Kamloops Blazers in a 4-3 overtime win.

In the loss, Stankoven scored all of the Blazers’ three goals for a hat trick.

The third period was action-packed for the two teams battling back and forth taking blows at one another to finish off the game.

With under two minutes remaining in regulation, Stankoven scored to lift the Blazers up by one goal leading 3-2 as the Sandman Centre crowd went wild.

Only one minute later, the Cougars tied up the game with a Chase Wheatcroft goal.

In overtime, the Cougars’ first shot of the extra frame went top shelf from Koehn Ziemmer to lift PG to the win.

The loss drops the Blazers’ record to 5-2-1-1 and brings Prince George’s back to the .500 margin at 5-5-0-0.

Kamloops is back in action Sunday (October 23) as they take a trip to Langley to face off against the Vancouver Giants.

Puck drop is at 4:00 p.m.
