KAMLOOPS — Polling data provided by the City of Kamloops shows Mayor-elect Reid Hamer-Jackson swept to victory in Saturday’s (Oct. 15) municipal election by dominating North Kamloops.

Voters had a chance to visit 19 polling stations or opportunities, including the two advance polling stations, as well as mail-in voting and special voting opportunities, where votes were gathered into one ‘station’ for the purpose of tabulation.

Hamer-Jackson received the most votes in 11 of the 19 polling stations. Councillor Dieter Dudy won seven stations and Councillor Sadie Hunter, who finished third in the overall vote, received the most votes by mail or from special voting opportunities. Neither fourth-place finisher Councillor Arjun Singh or fifth-place finisher Ray Dhaliwal were able to win a single polling station.

The mayor-elect finished with 7,298 votes — a margin of 1,648 over his closest rival, Dudy.

The combined margin of Hamer-Jackson’s victories in six North Kamloops polling stations — Arthur Hatton Elementary, Arthur Stevenson Elementary, Brocklehurst Middle, NorKam Secondary and Westmount Elementary, as well as the McArthur Island advance polling location — was 1,819 votes, more than enough for Hamer-Jackson to sweep past Dudy.

Hamer-Jackson received 31 per cent of all mayoral votes cast.

Rookie incoming councillor Katie Neustaeter, who received more votes than any other candidate Saturday, won 15 of 19 polling stations. Councillor Bill Sarai won three stations, while Councillor Mike O’Reilly received the most votes from the Heritage House advance polling location.

Of the candidates vying to take the five Kamloops seats on the District 73 Board of Education, incumbent trustee John O’Fee won 15 of 19 polling stations outright and tied fellow incumbent Kathleen Karpuk for the most votes from another station. Karpuk won two stations outright, while incumbent Heather Grieve received the most votes from the final station.
