New Merritt councillors, mayor to serve upcoming term following election
MERRITT – The City of Merritt has a new mayor and it is former city councillor, Mike Goetz. After preliminary results, Goetz received 859 votes out of the 2,261 votes.
Following behind was Tony Luck with 700 votes, now former Mayor Linda Brown with 565 votes, followed by 267 votes for Mike Bhangu.
Merritt City Council will look mostly different this upcoming term with five new faces and one incumbent returning.
Incumbent Adam Etchart was the leading vote-getter for the second election in a row with 1,712, Manuel Olguin finished with 1,195, finishing with the third amount of votes was Paul Petroczi with 1,191, followed by Dana Egan with 1,153 votes, 980 votes went to Wendy Charney, and wrapping up the sixth council spot is Claire Newman with 956.
