KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson School Board will have some new faces joining the team for the next four years. Five seats at the board table are allotted to the city of Kamloops, and four other seats elected from the surrounding communities.

Kathleen Karpuk will be one of three incumbents returning to the school board for the next term.

As the Kamloops population continues to grow, she understands securing capital funding from the government will be key for the board moving forward.

“We currently have the equivalent of four elementary schools worth of portables and we are growing at the rate of one elementary school per year. It’s really important that we get that new capital into the district and get some new builds,” said Karpuk.

Karpuk secured the second most votes for a school trustee with more than 10,000. She is looking forward to working with her fellow returnees and the new faces like Cole Hickson and Jo Kang to improve education in SD73.

“Really pleased with the slate of candidates that have been elected, I think it’s a really great group and I think we are going to get a lot of really good work done,” added Karpuk.
