KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say officers issued more than $50,000 in fines and hundreds of tickets in a three-day blitz to target vehicles in need of major repairs and to address safety violations.

In a news release issued Thursday (Oct. 13) morning, RCMP say the common concerns with trailers between Sept. 27 and 29 included improper connections, failure to conduct a pre-inspection and brake check and not hooking up the break-away properly.

“Today, the biggest thing we’re finding is personal trailers and improper towing,” Cpl. Wayne Chung from the RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit says. “There’s some enforcement depending on the infraction but a lot of it is education.”

On Sept. 28, RCMP say a driver was ticketed for having an unsecure load after large bags of aluminum cans fell from his vehicle onto the Halston Bridge, which nearly caused several collisions. A vehicle was also impounded for travelling nearly 120 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.
