KAMLOOPS — Turmoil behind the scenes has led Habitat for Humanity Canada to disaffiliate from its Kamloops branch.

The move means the local non-profit can no longer use the ‘Habitat for Humanity’ name and logos.

In a news release issued Thursday (Oct. 13), Habitat Canada says it has been working with the Kamloops affiliate in an effort to help it meet the national organization’s “high operational and governance standards.” When it was unable to meet the standards, the national board voted to disaffiliate.

“The families we serve are our number one concern and we have urged the former affiliate to confirm their continued support for the homeowners,” stated the release. “While disaffiliation means that Habitat for Humanity is no longer operating in the communities served by the former affiliate, we are exploring ways in which we can continue to serve these communities.”
