Province approves massive C-Zone extension for New Afton Mine
KAMLOOPS — New Gold says its massive C-Zone development in the New Afton mine west of Kamloops has been given provincial approval.
In a news release issued Friday (Oct. 7), the company says the Province of B.C.’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation has issued a M229 Permit Amendment enabling the company to mine the C-Zone, which is deeper and further to the east of the current caves.
Calling the approval a “significant milestone” for the mine, New Gold President and CEO Renaud Adams said production from the new area is expected to begin next year.
“The New Afton team continues to advance development of the C-Zone, with commencement of production expected in the second half of 2023,” said Adams. “I would like to express my gratitude to our team, communities, partners, and the Ministry for their collaborative efforts to complete this permitting process.”
