Flight 752 families want Ottawa to get tougher on Iran

Oct 4, 2022 | 12:28 PM

OTTAWA — The families of people killed when Iran’s military shot down Flight 752 almost three years ago say Canada needs to take a harder line against the regime.

Hundreds of Iranian-Canadians gathered on Parliament Hill today to mark 1,000 days of mourning since the air tragedy.

All but 29 of the 167 passengers on the January 2020 flight had ties to Canada

The families say the federal government hasn’t done enough to get justice their loved ones.

Today’s gathering took on political overtones, with the crowd heckling Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, and cheering Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre for demanding more action.

Freeland says the government will do more to punish the “brutal dictatorship” in Iran, but the crowd called for Canada to endorse calls for prosecution at the International Criminal Court.
