KAMLOOPS — After months of talks within its membership, the BC Liberal Party announced a potential name change.

In a news release issued Tuesday (Sept. 27), the BC Liberals announced its members will decide by year’s end if “BC United” will be its new name.

The BC Liberals state a potential party name change was a key commitment made by new leader Kevin Falcon. The process began at the party’s June convention in Penticton where it says two-thirds of delegates voted in favour in considering a new name.

“I want to thank all the members who have taken part in the process so far, and I urge them to participate in the vote when the time comes later this year,” Falcon states. “I’ll personally be voting in favour of changing the party name, and I’m hopeful our members do too.”

According to the BC Liberals, over 2,000 name suggestions were submitted over a three-month period.

The party says details of finalizing the voting process will be made available in the coming weeks. It says every member will have a chance to vote in favour of changing the party’s name to “BC United” or keep the existing BC Liberal name.

The BC Liberals also say “BC United” has been registered with Elections BC as its alternate name.
