Ahead of the Oct. 15 municipal election, CFJC Today asked candidates for Kamloops City Council to complete a questionnaire, offering voters the chance to evaluate their candidacies.

QUESTIONNAIRE:

Describe yourself, your occupation and your historical connection to the Kamloops area.

Partnership in arts and culture projects; founding member of the Kamloops Blazers Sports Society. John Howard Society involvement. Extensive business background: real estate agent, Sopranos restaurant, Mongolian Grill, and Headhunters Hair Salons ownership.

What differentiates you from the other candidates?

A detailed platform, a City of Kamloops Exemplary Service Award, and an extensive business history and partnerships developed in Kamloops.

What do you think is the best way to resolve disagreements or conflicts with your peers, those in a different department or those in a different jurisdiction?

Face to face discussions honouring different points of view and coming to a compromise for the betterment of the city.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing the City of Kamloops and how would use your elected position to address it?

Strong, united leadership with mayor and council having a common vision to promote our city as the hub of the province. All working co-operatively to capitalize on the unique geographical location of Kamloops – the centre of the province – with all transportation routes (railroads and highways) meeting in our hub city. Kamloops must be promoted as an inland port.

Additionally, strong leadership and inter-governmental co-operation in areas negatively impacting all communities in North America such as job creation. Tax rebate incentive for business start ups, and create affordable housing incentives to meet the needs of all citizens.

How do you plan to involve Kamloops residents in your decision-making?

Hold town hall public forums several times a year for different areas. Invite speakers: senior representatives, MLAs, MPs, business association representatives, independent business owners, retirees, and school district administrators.

What does a sustainable future for Kamloops and area look like to you and what does it need from mayor and council?

Kamloops developed as an inland port – cross-Canada and coast freight shipped to Kamloops by truck and rail and redistributed from here to all points north, south, east, and west.
