Kamloops to remember Queen Elizabeth II at ceremony Monday at Riverside Park

KAMLOOPS — Legions across Canada will be holding ceremonies on Monday (Sept 19) morning to remember the life of Queen Elizabeth II.

The event in Kamloops will be held at the cenotaph in Riverside Park starting at 10:45 a.m.

Kamloops Legion President Daniel Martin confirmed that the event will follow a similar structure to Remembrance Day ceremonies of the past, including the national anthem, speeches and a moment of silence for her majesty.

“It’s going to be similar to November 11. We will gather everybody, have O Canada like usual and then at 11:00, two minutes of silence. And then followed by a wreath-laying — there will be one wreath laid at the cenotaph by me, there will also be a picture of the queen,” said Martin.

Individuals in attendance are welcome to lay a wreath or flowers on the base of the cenotaph.

Martin will be making a brief speech as well as other invited dignitaries. The event will conclude with a rendition of God Save the King.

“We will have a few speeches by VIPs. We will give an opportunity to the city to acknowledge what she did, because she has been here four times — two as a princess, twice as queen. It’s important that we recognize that,” added Martin. “We invite the population if they want to come down to Riverside Park at 10:30-10:45, because at 11:00 on the dot there will be two minutes of silence.”
