Trans Canada Highway east of Golden closing for most of autumn
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops drivers planning to visit Banff or Calgary via the Trans Canada Highway over the autumn months will need to account for an extra 90 minutes on their trip.
In a news release issued Tuesday (Sept. 13), B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation says Highway 1 between Golden, B.C. and Castle Junction, Alta. will be closed from noon on Monday, Sept. 26, to 6 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1. It’s due to construction on the highway through the Kicking Horse Canyon to make the 4.8-kilometre section of roadway into a four-lane standard route.
All through traffic on Highway 1 from Golden to Castle Junction will be routed via Highways 93S and 95. The province says this will add as much as 90 minutes of travel time.
“Drivers should expect congestion and some delays on the alternate route during busier periods, which include weekends and the Nov. 11 Remembrance Day holiday. Travelling during off-peak periods when possible is suggested.,” the ministry states.
