Shuswap voters in Columbia Shuswap Regional District have plenty to choose

SALMON ARM, B.C. — Shuswap voters will have some choices to make come Election Day.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District will have elections in four of the five electoral areas in and around the Shuswap.

In Area ‘C’ – (Eagle Bay, White Lake, Tappen, Sunnybrae), Marty Gibbons will take on Nicholas Najda. Incumbent Paul Demonok will not run for re-election.

In Area ‘D’ – (Falkland, Salmon Valley, Deep Creek, Ranchero), incumbent Rene Talbot will be challenged by Dean Trumbley.

In Area ‘E’ – (Rural Sicamous, Malakwa), incumbent Rhona Martin will have three challengers — Leslie Johnson, Dan Letendre and Natalie Sorkilmo.

In Area ‘F’ – (North Shuswap, Seymour Arm), incumbent Jay Simpson will face Eugene Eklund.

Voters in Area ‘G’ – (Blind Bay, Sorrento, Notch Hill) will be represented by Natalya Melnychuk, who was the only candidate to file nomination papers. This electoral area will be newly-created as of November 17, 2022.

Candidates have until Friday, Sept. 16 to withdraw their names from the ballot.

The B.C. municipal elections will take place Oct. 15, 2022.
