KAMLOOPS — Kamloops will have a new mayor after the October 15 municipal election — and five candidates have put their names forward for the job.

The city’s candidate list will see sitting councillors Dieter Dudy, Sadie Hunter and Arjun Singh running against former councillor Ray Dhaliwal and newcomer Reid Hamer-Jackson.

Dudy, an organic farmer, previously ran for mayor in 2011, coming within 250 votes of dethroning Peter Milobar. Dudy was first elected to council in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018.

Hunter, a communications consultant and small business owner, was first elected to council in 2018.

Singh, a property manager, was first elected to council in 2005, defeated in 2008, then re-elected in 2011, 2014 and 2018. He served as acting mayor for a brief period in 2017 and is a former president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities.

Dhaliwal, a locksmith and small business owner, was elected to council in a 2017 by-election but was defeated in the 2018 general election.

Hamer-Jackson, a small business owner, does not have political experience. He has been outspoken about social issues surrounding his Victoria Street West car dealership.

Three incumbent councillors will be among 23 candidates for council seats: Dale Bass, Mike O’Reilly and Bill Sarai. The two remaining incumbents, Kathy Sinclair and Denis Walsh, have chosen not to run again.

These are the 20 remaining candidates for council:
