Erroneous shots fired complaint leads two Brocklehurst schools to declare brief hold-and-secure
KAMLOOPS — Fireworks led to a hold-and-secure protocol at a pair of Brocklehurst schools earlier Monday afternoon (Sept. 12).
In a news release, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn of Kamloops RCMP say officers were called to the report of loud noises that sounded like gunshots at about 1:45 p.m. in the area of Sunnycrest Avenue and Southill Street.
School District 73 decided to temporarily place Brock Middle School and Kay Bingham Elementary on hold-and-secure.
“While officers were responding to the area, they heard fireworks and received further reports of the loud bangs,” said Cpl. Evelyn. “A person was located nearby and a number of fireworks were seized as part of the investigation.”
