Barriere man arrested after reported shooting in Westsyde North

BARRIERE, B.C. — A 49-year-old man from Barriere was arrested and remains in custody following a shooting in Westsyde North Tuesday (Sept. 6) evening.

In a news release issued Wednesday (Sept. 7) morning, Barriere RCMP say they responded to the 4200-block of Peterson Betts Road just before 7:00 p.m. for reports of several shots being fired. While responding, RCMP say they received another call from a man who stated someone shot at him and his vehicle with a rifle.

Police say the 49-year-old man was identified quickly, and it was determined the victim and suspect were known to each other. The shooting’s motive remains under investigation, and police say there’s no further risk to the public.
