Aug 29, 2022 | 5:36 AM

BARRIERE, B.C. — Barriere and area residents won’t have emergency services nearby until Thursday (Sept. 1).

Starting at 8:30 a.m. Monday (Aug. 29) and lasting until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 31), Interior Health says the Barriere and District Health Centre’s emergency department will be closed due to limited nursing availability. Barriere’s emergency department is usually open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

During this time, Interior Health says all other services will continue as normal at the Barriere Health Centre. Anyone in the Barriere area who needs life-threatening emergency care – such as chest pains, difficulty breathing, and severe bleeding – should call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility.

Anyone who’s unsure about seeking emergency services can call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
