KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack men’s soccer team is now 2-0 after a successful first weekend of the season.

Opening their season, the WolfPack played the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday (Aug. 26) and the University of Victoria Vikes on Saturday (Aug. 27).

A great start to the year came after the men’s team took down the four-time defending Canada West champion Thunderbirds 2-0.

The next night the story was much of the same with a 3-0 win over the Vikes.

“I am absolutely happy, those were two tough games,” said WolfPack head coach John Antulov.

“UVic played really hard tonight, they were really physical and well organized. The first half was a battle, but we changed things up a bit and our guys were able to get that first goal which opened things up a bit for us. The guys were able to create some opportunities and we were able to capitalize on the chances that we got.”

The team release states the key to the game was following the halftime where the score sat knotted at 0-0. TRU changed in for some fresh legs as the team was able to showcase its depth in attacking options.

“We’ve got probably six or seven guys that we can rotate quite a bit, you can throw Darupad Sharma in there and a couple other guys as well that can jump into those positions,” said Antulov.

“If something’s not working you can adjust and change and the guys coming in are doing a fantastic jo,b so it really gives us that opportunity to have the depth that we can mix it up and change it up. We haven’t had that in the past so to have that now is huge.”

TRU hits the road next weekend for games against the UFV Cascades and Trinity Western Spartans.
