KAMLOOPS — One person is dead and another is injured following an alleged drive-by shooting on Friday (August 26) in Kamloops.

At roughly 10:45 p.m., on Friday, Kamloops RCMP officers responded to Ord Road near Singh Street for a 911 call involving two men who had been shot while inside a red Toyota Matrix.

The driver of the vehicle was declared dead shortly after but the person in the passenger seat was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Later in the night, RCMP officers were then called to a vehicle fire on Frontage Road in Rayleigh. The Kamloops RCMP release says an investigation is underway on if the two events were related.

“Although the investigation is in its very early stages, the homicide victim was well-known to police and the shooting is believed to be targeted,” said Kamloops RCMP Inspector Jeff Pelley. “It is very important that anyone with information come forward as soon as possible to help officers determine what transpired and who is responsible.”

The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit is looking for witnesses and information following the shooting as little information is known.
