CELISTA, B.C. — The province is honouring a North Shuswap family for spending more than 100 years in farming.

The Riley-Gillis family has operated Hungry Rock Farm in Celista since before 1920. It began as a dairy operation, with Charles and Mary Riley providing Salmon Arm with cream.

When the next generation — daughter Rosemary Gillis — took over in 1969, they raised beef cattle, sheep and Welsh ponies, eventually focusing solely on sheep. Today, the farm is leased to local hay producers.

The Riley-Gillis family is being presented with the province’s Century Farm Award for 2022.
