KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Mounties are reaching out to the public after a series of complaints involving cosmetic procedures performed out of a North Shore home.

“People like this prey on customers with the intention of luring them in with cheaper prices. The risk of course for the customer is the ignorance can lead to complications that can sometimes be very difficult to manage,” said Dr. Chris Brink, Owner of SKIN Kamloops.

The team at SKIN Kamloops has been busy in recent weeks, working to save botched cosmetic procedures.

“We’ve been inundated — with calls, people coming in, people sending us emails. People are disfigured. People have complications that are manageable for the most part,” stated Brink.

Luckily, Dr. Brink and his staff can usually help fix the problem, but in some cases the only solution is time.

“Most of these problems are fixable. The only concern is some of these products that people are promised to have in their lips or their face. We might not understand the true extent of that, whether it is actually the products she is promising to inject in those areas,” added Brink.

The story came to light earlier this week as the RCMP made an arrest and searched a North Shore home. Cpl. Crystal Evelyn noted more victims could still be out there.

“Police received several reports involving failed or botched cosmetic procedures. Based on the number of complaints we’ve received, we do have reason to believe that there could be more people out there with information related to this investigation who haven’t yet come forth,” said Evelyn.

Dr. Brink highlighted that cosmetic work needs to be conducted in a safe environment where any possible complications can be quickly addressed.

“If somebody that has no training attempts these procedures, the complication risk is very high. It can vary from bleeding, bruising, swelling, lumps, disfigurement. But in worst case scenarios it can lead to vascular complications,” stated Brink.

For those looking to receive a procedure, Brink has one simple piece of advice.

“We encourage people to credential their injector. Make sure they have been well educated and that they are certified with the colleges that look after them,” suggested Brink.
