KAMLOOPS — RCMP have a man in custody after an attempted armed robbery at a North Shore gas station Thursday evening.

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says officers responded to a gas station in the 200-block of Tranquille Road — Canco — at about 8:30 p.m. for the report of masked man with a shotgun.

As officers were en route, two bystanders disarmed and detained the suspect, holding him until the Mounties arrived.

“Luckily, no one was physically hurt in this high-risk situation and the man was taken into custody without further incident,” said Evelyn. “In situations as such, we always have and continue to encourage residents to contact police officers when possible, who are trained for situations like these, rather than getting directly involved due to the risks attached.”

James Robert Levi Black, 27, is facing seven charges, including robbery with a firearm, having a firearm for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm and obstruction of a peace officer.

Further witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2022-29007.
