New wildfire erupts just north of Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (3:00 p.m.): B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) reports the fire, dubbed the East Meadows Plateau fire, is at three hectares.

BCWS says nine ground personnel are on scene, and aircraft are attacking the blaze from above.

EARLIER: B.C. Wildfire Service crews are attacking a new wildfire start just north of Kamloops.
The fire is easily visible from higher elevations in the city. It became visible during the noon hour Wednesday (Aug. 17).
BCWS Information Officer Taylor Colman says the blaze, about 20 kilometres north of Kamloops, is exhibiting Rank 2 and Rank 3 behaviour, meaning there is visible, open flame with a slow-to-moderate rate of spread.
Colman says two initial attack crews have been sent to the fire, as well as helicopters and air tankers.
