City of Kamloops opens Sandman Centre and Parkview Activity Centre as temporary cooling centres

KAMLOOPS — Two cooling centres will open in Kamloops to tackle the latest heat warning.

The City of Kamloops announced it will open the concourse at Sandman Centre, located at 300 Lorne St. downtown, and Parkview Activity Centre, located at 500 McDonald Ave., Wednesday (Aug. 17) from noon until 8:00 p.m.

The centres will operate daily until the end of the heat event to give residents temporary relief from temperatures in the high 30s this week.

Numerous heat relief options are available in Kamloops, including water parks, drinking fountains with potable water and washrooms with potable water at various parks.
