One killed in highway crash north of Barriere

BARRIERE, B.C. — UPDATE (5:00 p.m.): Drive BC says the highway is now fully open.

EARLIER: RCMP are confirming one person has died in a crash north of Barriere Tuesday (Aug. 16).

According to spokesperson Cpl. Madonna Saunderson, the single-vehicle incident was reported at about 10:37 a.m. Drive B.C. says the corresponding closure of Highway 5 is about six kilometres north of Barriere.

Saunderson says one person was killed.

Investigators are still working to identify the victim, notify their next of kin and gather evidence at the scene.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, Drive B.C. says the road is closed in both directions between Carlson Road and McDougall Road. There is no estimated time of re-opening.
