Overnight phone and internet disruptions for Lytton, Spences Bridge as TELUS repairs fibre cables damaged in wildfire

LYTTON — TELUS crews will perform maintenance Saturday (August 13) night that will disrupt TV, landline and cell service for Lytton, Boston Bar, Spences Bridge, Keremeos, Fraser Acres, Spuzzum and Yale.

TELUS says that fibre cables have been damaged in the Richter Mountain fire, a blaze near Osoyoos that was started Friday (Aug. 12) and is burning out of control at around 50 hectares.

From about 11 p.m. to 12 a.m., TV, internet, landline and 9-1-1 services will be unavailable. E-Comm 9-1-1, B.C.’s largest emergency communications centre says in a Tweet that those in life-threatening emergency should dial 9-1-1 in case service has been restored. If there is no service, they suggest heading to the police or fire department if possible.

“Usually we could avoid a disruption while completing these repairs, but our back-up fibre lines in the area are affected by other wildfires,” says a Tweet from TELUS.
