SAVONA, B.C. — RCMP are investigating a frightening armed robbery in Savona Tuesday night (Aug. 9).

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says it happened at a gas station in the 7000-block of the Trans Canada Highway, at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Evelyn says a man reportedly entered the gas station’s store pulled out a gun, then took both lottery tickets and cigarettes.

“The man fled from the store and jumped on the back of a black street motorcycle, driven by his accomplice who was waiting nearby,” said Evelyn.

Witnesses described the suspect as wearing a black and orange motorcycle helmet with a face guard and the numbers 509 on the side.

Later, a patrolling Mountie tracked down a motorcycle with no license plate and two riders, travelling in the direction of Deer Road. As the officer tried to stop the bike, one of the riders dropped a bag before it sped off. The bag contained the stolen merchandise, which was returned to the store.

Anyone who witnessed the robbery or has relevant information, including dashcam footage, is asked to contact Tk’emlups Rural RCMP at (250) 314-1800 and refer to file number 2022-27763.
