KAMLOOPS — A suspect was arrested following a series of sexual interference allegations in Kamloops.

In a news release issued Tuesday (Aug. 9) morning, RCMP say they began an investigation in late July 2022 after a report involving workplace sexual assaults on an underage employee in Valleyview. Sexual interference, under the Criminal Code of Canada, is when a person directly or indirectly touches a person under the age of 16 years for a sexual purpose.

The sexual assaults allegedly began in May 2022 and continued into July at a retail store on the 2000-block of the East Trans Canada Highway. RCMP say other victims have since been identified and spoken with police.

“As the investigation progresses, police have reason to believe more people may have information related to allegations involving the accused, but have not yet contacted police,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says. “If something has happened to you or someone you know, and you have not yet reported it to police, please reach out. It’s important for us to hear from you.”

The suspect was released on conditions. Anyone with information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP.

RCMP encourage victims to report suspected sexual assault offences, even if they’re not ready to proceed with criminal charges. Police say they can collect data and information that may be able to identify more victims, help protect others, and offer supports.

Anyone who has, or knows someone who has experienced sexual violence, and needs support can call the Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre Crisis Line at 1-888-974-7278 for local and confidential support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
