KAMLOOPS — Car lovers are going to be in heaven this weekend for the 27th annual Hot Nite in the City hot-rod event in downtown Kamloops.

For the celebration, car lovers are coming from all over.

“We have Alberta coming, the Lower Mainland, the Island, long distance from Terrace this year and Prince George, it’s just a good selection of vehicles,” says Ron Popove, Event Organizer.

Popove says he has around 500 different participants with classic and new cars, trucks, and bikes. Downtown Kamloops will be busy with foot traffic.

“It’s estimated at … more than 30,000 is not beyond the realm of possibilities,” says Howie Reimer with the Downtown Business Improvement Association (BIA).

“This year, I won’t say double but the numbers should be greater. You just have to be there to see it,” adds Popove.

On Friday and Saturday multiple car events will take place including a poker rally, the show and shine and a tricycle drag race. It is one of Kamloops’ most popular showcases.

“It is one of the marquee events of the summer and we’re back in full force. It’s going to be awesome all weekend long,” says Reimer.

The Downtown Business Improvement association notes that with the extra busy streets, businesses will flourish.

“Any residual interest in downtown businesses we certainly encourage everybody to have lunch on the patios, browse the shops if you care. This is to showcase the cars and if downtown shines brightly then it’s just a bonus for us as well,” Reimer says.

Events are underway Friday evening and the Show and Shine starts at 8 am.

“All in all, it’s going to be a great day and a great weekend,” Popove adds.
