KAMLOOPS – Cooler temperatures are allowing BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) personnel to attack the Watching Creek wildfire 16 kilometres northwest of Kamloops.

The BCWS says the cooler temperatures and increased relative humidity today (Aug. 4) has supported the effort to battle the flames. However, the wildfire is still considered to be out of control.

The fire is measured at 195 hectares. BCWS crews have been working to establish a water delivery system and mop-up the northeast corner of the fire. Heavy equipment has managed to complete a guard on part of the eastern flank. Air support is continuing to assist firefighters on the ground.

An evacuation alert remains in place.
