Smoke from the Nohimin Creek wildfire expected to impact Kamloops today
KAMLOOPS – Smoke from the Nohomin Creek Wildfire northwest of Lytton is expected to drift over Kamloops today (Aug. 1). The fire, which started July 14, has grown to nearly 3,000 thousand hectares in the latest estimate from the BC Wildfire Service.
Environment Canada is forecasting smoke to be present in the Kamloops area over the course of the day however a risk of shower in the afternoon may help to clear away smoke in the air.
The northside of the Nohomin fire remains active with crews working to create fire breaks while installing sprinkler systems as a reinforcement.
There are 89 firefighters, 11 helicopters and three pieces of heavy equipment assigned to the wildfire. Among the firefighters are 18 Lytton First Nation firefighters.
