Kúkpi7 Casimir named to the Order of British Columbia
KAMLOOPS – Kúkpi7 Rosanne Casimir has been appointed to the Order of British Columbia. It is the highest form of recognition by the B.C. government. Casimir is one of 14 people to receive the special recognition on B.C. Day.
“I share these congratulations with gratitude to these incredible individuals who have done so much to enrich their communities. Their leadership and generous service has enhanced the lives of so many British Columbians and has contributed to shaping a better future for all residents of our province.” said Janet Austin, lieutenant governor of British Columbia and chancellor of the Order of British Columbia.
Kúkpi7 Casimir became a national figure last year when she led her community through the public confirmation of more than 200 unmarked graves near the former Kamloops Indian Residential School grounds. Earlier this year she was sixth on the Macleans Magazine ‘Power List’, ranking “50 Canadians who are forging paths, leading the debate and shaping how we think and live.”
Casimir was elected to a second term as chief of Tk’emlups last November.
