COLLINS: B.C. Day should be a day to celebrate -It’s not

Aug 1, 2022 | 8:30 AM

Do you know what’s hard about being a columnist these days? Trying to find a balance between the positive stories and the negative ones. It’s difficult.

We live in the most beautiful province in Canada, we live in a great city, we have strong leadership. I work for a company that cares about its people and the community. And if I stayed away from the news, I would be a happy man.

But then I see the stories about the gangland shootings, many in broad daylight, violence against the homeless including horrific events like setting a homeless woman’s hair on fire, or setting a homeless man’s tent on fire while he sleeps inside, lack of housing for any but the rich and famous, petty crime and the list goes on.

Lack of workers in almost every field, including health care, lack of leadership in government, climate change ignored by everyone, despite increases in fires and floods.

And on the larger front with the implosion south of the border with Putin scaring the hell out of all of us.

It is a tough time to be teaching our kids about the positives of life. The positives are there, it’s just harder to find them.

Now that you’ve read this, delete it from your feed, find something positive to do with your family and friends, and rejuvenate yourself.

If you don’t, you’ll wind up crotchety like me. And I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Happy B.C. Day.

I’m Doug Collins and that’s One Man’s Opinion.
