New mural, orange banners coming to downtown Williams Lake
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Williams Lake council approved two new projects in the downtown area: a mural that recognizes volunteer groups in the community and orange banners in recognition of Indigenous reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
Local artist Dwayne Davis will be painting the mural, and the proposed location is on the concrete wall in the parking lot of the Save-On-Foods. The mural was chosen by the Downtown Williams Lake BIA and the Williams Lake Public Art Committee after they established a formal process to collect submissions of art from the public.
The orange banners will be installed annually from July 31 to Oct. 7, coming down a week after the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which falls on Sept. 30
Currently, the Downtown Williams Lake BIA has banners up year-round, but the banners would be switched out each year.
