KAMLOOPS — The wiener dog race was a highlight of the seventh annual North Shore Business Improvement Association’s (BIA) Overlander’s Day.

Thousands of people gathered at Brocklehurst Park on Sunday (July 24) for the celebration that sees people come together for a fun-filled event.

“It’s a really great way to bring in the business and the community together – we have 75 vendors from local businesses – to craft food – to artists we also have an amazing expo with 12 food vendors,” says Patti Phillips, Event Coordinator.

Among the various food vendors was Papa John’s which hosted the pizza eating contest.

Scott Watkins who’s also known as “Scott Eats” on YouTube won the contest and ate the entire pizza in under a minute. Watkins says he’s glad he won, but he’s more glad to see the community out.

“It’s actually really awesome it’s a lot busier than I thought it would be, it’s such a beautiful day, it’s great to see families out it’s a nice family event.”

“The kids really enjoyed the ax throwing, petting the goats and of course the dog race they really liked that,” says Irene and Emily Dhaliwal.

“It’s good to see everybody from the community come and recognize the business owners and talk to them if it’s something you’re interested in,” The Homer family adds.

The wide variety of tents, games and contests made this Overlander’s Day one of the best yet.

“It warms my heart so much I have such a passion for Kamloops, I have such a passion for the North Shore and local period so seeing all these people enjoying this local area it’s just absolutely fabulous,” adds Phillips.
