Kamloops residents told to prepare for ‘moderate heat wave’
KAMLOOPS — The summer heat has arrived in the tournament capital as temperatures have begun routinely cresting the 30 degree mark. But as residents re-acclimatize themselves with warm weather, Environment Canada warns it only going up from here.
“What we are seeing is a moderate type of heat event for next week. We will probably be near heat warning criteria — we are looking into that, issuing some heat warning potentially for portions of British Columbia for the early part of next week. We are going to be hitting temperatures in the high thirties,” said meteorologist Matt Loney.
Despite the increased temperatures, Loney noted Kamloops is still well below the heat dome of last year.
“We are looking at basically a strong summer-like ridge of high pressure. As you recall from last year we did hit temperatures in the mid-forties, in fact we topped out at Kamloops airport at 46.2. We aren’t seeing temperatures anywhere close to that for this particular event,” stated Loney.
