Kamloops Pride week returns with in-person events in 2022

KAMLOOPS — After two years of virtual events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kamloops Pride will return to the streets in 2022.

Pride Week in Kamloops will begin Monday, Aug. 22, and end on Sunday, Aug. 28 with the parade and afterparty in Riverside Park.

Ashton O’Brien, Kamloops Pride president, says the group has reintroduced monthly in-person events, and held its first dance since the pandemic began.

“We haven’t been able to gather as a community for so long, and I think the turnout so far is a reflection of that,” O’Brien says. “We can’t wait to host a full and exciting Pride Week for the Kamloops 2SLGBTQPIA+ community and our allies so we can all gather and celebrate pride together.”

Kamloops Pride 2022 will include the annual window decorating contest and parade. Kamloops Pride says the parade allow motorized floats, along human-powered floats such as bicycle and mobility aids. The group hopes to see Kamloops’ streets filled with creative floats and pride colours.

The deadline to register for the Kamloops Pride parade and festival booths is Aug. 14.
