Kamloops realtor suspended after being caught on camera drinking milk from client’s fridge

KAMLOOPS — Lyska Fullerton was left reeling after reviewing her home security footage.

The Ring camera caught local realtor Mike Rose preparing her home for a showing on Saturday (July 16). While he’s in the kitchen, the video shows him looking around, opening the curtains and then opening the fridge.

He then takes out a jug of milk and drinks directly from the container.

“I was really shocked. Shocked doesn’t even cover it. It was just disbelief,” said Fullerton.

On a previous visit to her house, Fullerton says her camera shows Rose looking in the fridge and inadvertently breaking the arm of her couch.

“There’s just little things like, you can sit on the couch — he sat here in this chair, that was fine,” she said. “Like he didn’t sit on the table, he sat on the chair. I want you to make yourself at home, but that’s not making yourself at home,” she said.

“That’s like, ‘I don’t care if I sit on the arm of someone’s couch and it breaks.’”

Kamloops Royal LePage Realty and Mike Rose sent statements to CFJC Today.

I would publicly like to offer a most sincere apology for my actions. On Saturday, July 16, 2022, I was showing a house to my clients, and I made the very unfortunate, and very uncharacteristic, decision to drink milk from a container from the homeowners’ fridge. I have never done this kind of thing before, nor will I ever behave in this way again. I acted in a way that is unbecoming of my brokerage firm and my fellow REALTORS®. I broke the trust of the homeowners whose house I was showing. Although I have apologized directly to the homeowners, I know that actions like this are not quickly forgiven nor easily forgotten. I will be spending the next few weeks considering my actions, better understanding why I would do this, and work to ensure this kind of behaviour never occurs again. — Mike Rose

Our brokerage firm, Royal LePage Kamloops Realty, takes the actions of the REALTORS® who work with us very seriously. All REALTORS® sign a code of conduct and through the Canadian Real Estate Association, are held to a high standard of ethics. We are aware of the situation pertaining to REALTOR® Mike Rose and his conduct while showing a house in the Kamloops area on Saturday, July 16, 2022. At this time, we have been in conversation with Mike and have suspended him until further investigation. We are not at liberty to discuss anything further until the investigation into the details surrounding this situation have been completed. – Brian Ledoux and Tyler Becker, Brokers/Owners, Royal LePage Kamloops Realty

Fullerton has lodged a complaint with the Association of Interior Realtors. The association told CFJC Today it can’t comment until an investigation is completed. However, the organization’s findings won’t be made public.

“I think that accountability is key, I think that it should be something that we know about,” said Fullerton.

“Especially since we’re turning over our biggest asset in life — our home — to people, if you don’t have access to that information if you’re not privy to it… I think that that’s not something that should continue,” said Fullerton.
