COLLINS: Let’s quit pretending we’re really trying to help Ukraine

IT’S TIME WE TOOK A CLOSE LOOK at our efforts to support Ukraine. We’ve heard so many speeches about how we’re helping Ukraine. So much about how much money we’re spending, and there’s no question the money helps. But it’s not enough.

Dealing with families whose lives have been torn apart forever – It’s fine to take in refugees, but how does that help Ukraine?

Nice of people to put Ukrainian flags on their social media posts. To do what? Say “we’re behind you, but we’re staying far enough back so we can cheer you on, but we’re not going to do more than that.

The problem is that we’re afraid. Afraid to challenge the big Russian Bear (sorry that bears are compared to these cutthroats).

First of all, we don’t want Putin to set off the nukes, which he has threatened to do. Europe is so dependent on Russian oil and gas they don’t want to endanger their supplies.

Canada wants to send some big howitzers. Meanwhile, Russian air strikes are killing thousands of civilians and I don’t think we’re going to shoot one down with a howitzer.

President Biden says we’re with Ukraine as long as it takes. Joe, it isn’t going to take very long. Ukraine has a huge supply of grain it can’t get out. That’s killing its economy.

We’ve put sanctions in place, and they’ve helped, but they can’t continue forever.

Let’s be real. Ukraine is doomed. Eventually, the President and his wife will be captured and either killed or imprisoned.

Russia’s troops are demoralized. Conscription is being used to replenish numbers. The manufacturing sector is frantically trying to replace weapons. This would be the time to be courageous.

Putin already has gained most of the land he wanted to grab. Now he’s ready to make a crushing blow. And because we’re so afraid, we sit and watch a solitary couple and what’s left of their rag-tag army try to defend what they have left.

No one wants to start a nuclear war, but if Putin has any thoughts of using the nukes, he will at some point. So when, if ever, do we push back?

Aside from the nukes, this is like the 1930’s all over again. British Prime Minister Chamberlain trying to negotiate with Hitler as German forces continued to push through Europe, making new demands at every turn. Recognize any similarities?
